Tension is bradually brewing within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ketu South over the decision by leadership to put the constituency elections on hold.
Information gathered is that, the Regional Chairman of the NPP, Makafui Kofi Woanya is allegedly scheming to ensure that the incumbent Chairman of the party in Ketu South remains in that position hence, his refusal to call for the conduct of the elections.
The Ketu South constituency elections which was scheduled to take place May 18, 2022 couldn’t come on as disqualified candidates secured Court Injunction over the elections.
It would be recalled that the Denu High Court restrained the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from holding any election in the Ketu South and Anloga constituencies.
This was to be in force until a suit challenging the party’s internal election in the constituencies is determined.
The plaintiffs were A General Secretary hopeful; Eurica Gakpetor, Organiser for Tegbi; Francis Yaw Gbemu, An organiser; Richard Agbaga and Isaac Tatra.
They asked the court to nullify the recently held polling station election in the Anlo constituency over claims that it was fake as well as the cancellation of the electoral albums compiled.
Meanwhile, the case was later withdrawn from the Court giving way for the elections to take place.
This paper gathered that till now, no attempt has been made to call for the conduct of the elections.
This development is brewing tension within the party in the Constituency where delegates are agitating and intend to demonstrate against the Regional Chairman who, according information, would be the one to call for the conduct of the elections.
“This is a planned scheme by the Regional Chairman to get the incumbent Chairman in the Ketu South Constituency to continue in that position. We can tell you for a fact that the incumbent chairman will lose and they are all aware hence the plot to hold onto the elections and allow him to continue to be in that position,” aggrieved party members indicated.
However, this paper also gathered that, all documents from the Court regarding the withdrawal of the Injunction case against the elections have been served the parties and expectations are that the Regional Chairman of the party will do the needful and call for the elections to be held.
Delegates and party members and siupporters in Ketu South are currently not comfortable with the way and manner affairs of the party is being handled.
According to them, there is the need for the elections to be held before the National Party elections.
Most of the cansidates who have been vetted and are contesting the various positions said, they were expecting that the elections will be held after the withdrawal of the case from court.
